Flour Bluff ISD Police Officer, Alaena Tate is known around the school district as caring, encouraging and helpful. Officer Tate has been working at Flour Bluff High School for 3 years.
Officer Tate grew up in Weslaco, TX, and graduated from Weslaco High School. Her love for the police force started when she worked as a dedicated firefighter EMT for 13 years, 7.5 of which were at the Alice Fire Department.
When asked about her past, Officer Tate stated, “I really loved working as a firefighter because it really taught me how to be a really good first responder, I learned a lot about myself and my limits.”
While working as an EMT, she realized she wanted to become an arson investigator, but that required experience and graduation from the police academy. “I was really interested in investigating house fires, and figuring out what caused the fire. I wanted to determine if it was an accident or intentional,” says Officer Tate.
Once entering the police academy, she fell in love with being a patrol officer. She was a patrol deputy for 2 years at Aransas County Sherriff's Office, before she started working at Flour Bluff in 2021.
“I definitely realized that there are a lot of good people and a lot of bad people in this world, I enjoy helping as many people as I can,” said Officer Tate when asked what made her change her mind.
Outside of work, Officer Tate doesn’t have many hobbies or free time. She has 2 daughters a freshman and a junior who both attend Flour Bluff High School.
“I enjoy helping the students and keeping everyone safe here at the school,” Officer Tate said. “I love seeing kids grow and become successful through the years.”
Tate was also asked what was her favorite thing about working at Flour Bluff high school, she answered with, “I enjoy helping students and keeping everyone safe here at the school. I love seeing kids grow and become successful through the years.”
Officer Tate is a dedicated Police Officer at Flour Bluff ISD. Although her time at Flour Bluff has been short it has been impactful. Tate ensures the safety of our students and staff at Flour Bluff ISD by attending every school sponsored event, most recently being the Hornets football games.
