CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS—On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the 2024 Volleyball UIL 5A Division 1 State Championship Match was held in Garland, Texas. Maggie Croft, the team captain, led her team to victory all while earning the title of MVP: Most Valuable Player.
“It’s a huge honor and reflects the hard work of everyone involved in our program, not just me,” Croft said. “It was surreal and overwhelming—I felt so grateful for my team and coaches who made it all possible.”
Croft’s exceptional performance during the state finals recording 28 kills, 20 digs, and 9 blocks, were crucial for the Lady Hornets’ victory. Her leadership throughout the season, including the five-set win in the regional finals, proved further her ability in high pressure situations.
“I stay focused by trusting my preparation and reminding myself to play one point at a time,” Croft said. “There were moments of doubt, but my teammates kept me grounded.”
Her success is rooted from the guidance and encouragement from her coaches. Their support helped her build the confidence to perform at a high level, especially in moments like the regional final game against McKinney North.
“My coaches pushed me to be my best every day and believed in me even when I doubted myself,” Croft said. “During the regional finals, everything clicked, and I felt unstoppable because of the energy from my team.”
Beyond the physical preparation during the season, mental habits were beneficial as pillars of her success.
“Consistent practice, prioritizing recovery, and visualizing success before every game made a big difference,” Croft said. “Work hard every day, stay coachable, and never forget the importance of being a good teammate.”
Her dedication to her craft not only elevated her own performance but to those around her. As the team captain, she led by example, demonstrating values of hard work, resilience, and being a team player. She inspires not only her peers but younger hornets that look up to her, as her legacy set a standard for the future of the Flour Bluff Volleyball program.
“I want them to know that hard work and teamwork can accomplish anything and to always believe in themselves,” Croft said.
