Mrs. Chouinard at Flour Bluff Junior High is one of the newer staff at FBISD. Even though Mrs. Chouinard has recently joined Flour Bluff, she has already made an impact at our Junior High Library. Chouinard started her teaching journey five years ago in North Carolina, as an English Language Arts teacher for elementary school students. She then transitioned to a librarian for five years as well, two of those being at Flour Bluff.
She began her teaching career because of her interest in education, “I thought it would be great to have a career where I could share my love for learning and reading with others.” Chouinard said.
She also shared her methods of educating in the library or managing in the classroom.
“I think a successful teacher puts the students first and is able to develop a relationship with them first,” Chouinard said. “A lot of times a student who struggles with liking school will put forth a lot more effort if a teacher will get to know them.”
She is also a member of the Texas Librarian Association (TLA), to stay connected and updated with the latest learning trends and information. On top of that she is a member of the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA), which consists of virtual training to stay informed about the newest practices.
“I am a member of the TLA, so they send out newsletters. I am also a member of the TCEA and they send out what they call Lunch and Learns, which are the virtual trainings”
As a teacher, she tries to stay flexible with her students in the classroom.
“If I see a student struggling I often try to break it down as best as I can, maybe with a visual or just explaining it a bit more.” Chouinard said.
Even though Mrs. Chouinard recently joined FBISD, she has become a part of the community our school district is.
“I’ve worked at several districts and this is my favorite school district I’ve worked for because of the community, the kids here are wonderful,” Chouinard said. “The teachers are here to grow and teach as well, and all very supportive.”
