As Senior Lourdes Sosa enters her final year at Flour Bluff, she focuses on her true passion—acting. Over the past few years, she has been involved in various extracurriculars, from Varsity Treble Choir to Stingline, which have all helped shape her abilities as a performer. However, her journey has always been centered around theatre.
"As of senior year, I have dedicated all of my time to theatre, given it is my life's main passion," Sosa said. "I'm glad to have spent time in other extracurriculars as the skills I gained from those years help with my showmanship.”
Sosa reflects fondly on her first experiences with theatre, particularly her time in the One-Act competition during her freshman year with their production of "Dearly Departed." As the only freshman on the team and new to Flour Bluff, her experiences quickly became a highlight of her high school career.
"I felt proud being apart of a production and being judged and praised over my performance after winning an All-Star Cast medal alongside two other seniors," Sosa said. "It's so strange that, besides Ms. Samuels of course, that I'm the only one left who even remembers One-Act 2022 as the rest have all graduated."
Outside of her love for the stage, Sosa credits her parents as a major influence in her life. As she grows older, she sees more of their qualities in herself, and their support has been vital to her success.
"I'm a lot like my dad and the older I get, the more I look up to him. He's considerate and kind to people even when it isn't convenient. He's done his best to make sure me, my mom, and my little brother always have what we need," Sosa said. "My mom has always had a huge impact on my involvement in the arts and is the backbone of the house."
Like many students balancing academics with extracurriculars, Sosa admits to struggling with procrastination but is able to overcome it.
"Honestly, I'm not sure myself," Sosa said. "I procrastinate a lot and simply push through having to do school work after long practices."
Looking ahead, Sosa plans to attend Del Mar College, where she will continue to pursue her acting career while preparing for the next phase of her journey.
"I will be attending Del Mar, and also start building my career as an actor," Sosa said. "Becoming a news reporter is hopefully in the future, as well as auditioning for any roles for shows, films, or any public productions that can get my foot in the door."
In her free time, Sosa enjoys hobbies such as shopping, reading, watching streaming shows, and creating art.
"Shopping is definitely a favorite of mine," Sosa said. "I've also been meaning to get back into doing art related activities since I haven't created in a while."
One of the highlights of her senior year was attending a Broadway show during Thanksgiving break.
"I got to go see Jeremy Jordan, who I loved in Newsies, play as Jay Gatsby in the Great Gatsby musical on Broadway," Sosa said. "Eva Noblezada totally hit it out of the park too. It was such a gorgeous show all around."
In the future, Sosa is excited for what lies ahead, eager to continue pursuing her dreams and to leave a lasting impact on the world of performance. Sosa’s journey has been marked by her dedication, passion, with the support of those who have stood by her. As she prepares for a new chapter of her life, she is excited to take the next step in her career and fulfill her dreams in theatre and beyond.
"Thank you to the Flour Bluff Theatre department and everyone who’s been part of my journey," Sosa said. "I’ll always cherish the memories we’ve made." - Lourdes Sosa, Class of 2025.
