SSenior Landon Smith started his journey with the Flour Bluff community as a sophomore in 2022. His favorite part of the community is the environment within the district, which makes Flour Bluff special.
“This school is really old, It's well over 50 years old,” Smith said. “It's so old and the architecture is really different.”
While his time at Flour Bluff has been short, he mentioned the different atmosphere FBISD has compared to other school districts.
“My old highschool was extremely hectic and very stressful,” Smith said. “Here, it's very laid back and very chill.”
As aFlour Bluff High School student, he has been involved in multiple extracurricular activities. His extracurriculars spanned from the Flour Bluff Robotics team to Flour Bluff Sports Information Crew. During his time in each activity he has earned multiple leadership positions. Smith is the lead designer, programmer, and engineer and now lead CAD designer for the Flour Bluff Robotics team.
“I pretty much help with all things technology in both extracurriculars.” Smith said.
During the duration of his time on the Robotics team he and his team have earned multiple awards. In Robotics, they recently won the Inspire Award and earned a spot in Area Championships.
“This year was really special because we had no money,” Smith said. “All they would pay for was the entrance fees, so I had to work with what we had even though all of our parts were over ten years old!”
Regarding mentors, he talked about which teachers at Flour Bluff helped him the most throughout his highschool career. Smith named some of our technology based teachers as his most helpful mentors.
“Mr. Purdy, my computer science teacher, Mrs. Hellums our mentor for Robotics.” Smith said.
His hobbies outside of school don’t stray far from his interests at school. His interests include gaming at home, programming, 3D printing, and modifying different types of gaming equipment.
“I’ve done hard mods, soft mods, anything computers really.” Smith said.
A memory he wants to relive from his time spent at Flour Bluff is achieving awards with the Robotics team.
“[It was relieving] when we got the inspire award, and getting to Area Championships,” Smith said. “I wasn’t even expecting us to get out of Area Semis, I thought we were going to end the season here.”
Overall, Landon Smith has made a lasting impression at Flour Bluff, leaving his legacy in the computer science field. “One thing I want to leave behind is a Robotics team that gets recognition.” Smith said. He also adds that his high school experience was in 3 words: stressful, fun, and chill.
