For senior Juan Zamarripa, Flour Bluff High School has been more than just a place of learning—it has been home for his entire academic journey. Having attended Flour Bluff ISD his whole life, Zamarripa has built lasting friendships, embraced school traditions, and found his passion for history and athletics along the way.
Outside of the classroom, Zamarripa enjoys track and weightlifting, pushing himself to improve and stay active. Though he isn't currently involved in extracurricular clubs or organizations, he finds ways to contribute to his community.
One of his favorite high school memories: dressing up as an anime character for homecoming week.
“That was a lot of fun,” Zamarripa said.
For Zamarripa, the support of the Flour Bluff community is undeniable, especially when it comes to athletics.
“During sports events, when all the fans would come out and support the football team, it would bring a lot more energy into the team,” Zamarripa said.
He also takes pride in representing his school and carries the CPH motto (Class, Pride and Heart) as a core part of his identity as a Hornet.
Academically, history stands out as Zamarripa’s favorite subject. Even though he completed the course last year, he still finds himself drawn to learning about the past, particularly the Cold War era. One teacher who has had a significant impact on him is Mrs. Smith.
“The way she teaches the class—everything about it—it stands out more than the rest of the teachers,” Zamarripa said.
After graduation, Zamarripa plans to attend college and major in kinesiology, with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. He feels that Flour Bluff High School has given him a strong foundation for the future.
“The meetings about colleges, tests, and FAFSA really helped me out,” Zamarripa said.
Although many people might not know it, Zamarripa enjoys reading, particularly history and fiction books. It’s a hobby that aligns well with his love for historical studies and his curiosity about the world. A verse that inspires him is Philippians 4:13, which serves as a reminder of the strength and determination he carries as he moves forward.
“I can do anything with the power of Christ,” Zamarripa said.
As he prepares to leave Flour Bluff High School, Zamarripa has simple but important advice for future students:
“Focus on your grades,” Zamarripa said. “It will benefit you a lot after graduation.”
With his dedication to academics, passion for athletics, and strong sense of school pride, Zamarripa is ready to take the next step toward his future, carrying with him the lessons and memories from his time as a Hornet.
