Born in San Antonio, Texas and raised in Corpus Christi, senior Jaden Ferguson has attended Flour Bluff since 2019. With his involvement with the school and his passions, he has already made a significant impact in both the pool and beyond.
“My old school ACA was considerably larger than Flour Bluff, but I like the community that the Bluff brings,” Ferguson said.
For the past 4 years, Ferguson has been a dedicated member of the varsity swim and dive team, consistently honing his skills and pushing his limits. He made it to state and made it to finals placing 22nd in 2023. He has been swimming consistently for 6 years but when he was younger he swam on and off.
“I tried my best at state, I thought it was the worst performance I had ever done at a meet, but now thinking about it I was lucky enough even to make it to finals,” Ferguson said.
One of his commendable swimming achievements is having his name on the record board. In February of 2024, Ferguson and the boy's 200 Medley Relay broke the record by 0.4 seconds, after 5+ years.
“I didn’t know I had broken the record til a day after," Furgeson said.
Beyond swimming, Ferguson is an avid scuba diver, spotting creatures such as sharks & Groupers out in the the Gulf of Mexico. He is a certified Master Diver and when he dives, it is mostly with his family.
“I go mostly in the summer on the oil rigs here out in the Gulf,” Ferguson said. “It is a very surreal experience seeing the abyss of blue.”
Besides spending time as a scuba diver, Ferguson lives his life to the fullest by making memories. One memory he holds close is when he traveled to Cozumel, Mexico with his family.
“My favorite part of the trip was scuba diving with my family and getting to see many fishes,” Ferguson said.
To add an interesting twist to his story, Ferguson was riding in a 4-wheeler and it flipped causing his femur to fracture in half.
“Snapping my femur in half was no bueno,” Ferguson said.
Looking ahead, Ferguson hasn’t set his heart on a college but does plan to go out of state. He would like to major in Finance or Communication, and still keep his passion for swimming alive.
“Depending on how I do this year in the swim will determine where I go to college,” Ferguson said. “If I don’t swim, I’ll for sure go to a college here in Texas.”
