CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS—The Flour Bluff Marching Band will host their own Hot-Dog Howdy on August 24 from 6 to 8 PM in the band parking lot to kick off the year. The Hot-Dog Howdy is the Flour Bluff Marching Band’s first fundraising event of the year.
Guadalupe Armijo-Cruz, a high school senior and color guard captain, explained the purpose of the event, “We started the Hot-dog Howdy to involve the parents and show them what Marching Band is all about.”
While the Hot-Dog Howdy is a fundraising event, it also aims to demonstrate the payoff of the band's hard work. Marching band members have been practicing for 8 hours a day, 3 days a week since July 15th. Students have continued to maintain a practice schedule of 6 hours since the school began earlier in August.
AJ Minglana, a high school junior and Drum Major, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying, “We have as much fun as possible within practice, and we even have other events hosted by Marching Band like the haunted band hall, and the Hot-Dog Howdy which I find very exciting.”
As the 4th annual Hot-Dog Howdy approaches this year, morale is at an all-time high. The program’s band director, Mr. Phillips, shared his thoughts on this year's event, stating, “We feel great! We’re expecting a bigger turnout than last year and it looks to be a lot of fun!”
