Flour Bluff High School senior, Hailey Burchell, has spent nearly her entire educational journey within the district, having attended Flour Bluff ISD since Pre-K. Burchell shares memories, experiences, and aspirations that have shaped her into the person she is today.
For Burchell, Flour Bluff is more than just a school, it's where she’s made lifelong friends and memories. The sense of community and tradition is something that she holds dear.
“The people I’ve met and the Homecoming football games are some of my favorite parts of attending Flour Bluff,” Burchell said.
Burchell’s high school experience included three years in NJROTC, where she participated in Unarmed Drill (both Basic Regulation and Exhibition). Her time in the program helped her grow as a person, making her more outgoing and confident. Senior Chief Petty Officer Tirado, an instructor in NJROTC, left a lasting impact on her life, teaching her the importance of having someone on your side.
“A memorable moment I have from NJROTC is winning state my sophomore year,” Burchell said.
While Burchell may not currently be involved in any extracurricular activities, she has a variety of hobbies that keep her busy outside of school. These hobbies, inspired by her mother’s passions, provide her with a sense of joy and creativity.
“I love reading, roller skating, and painting,” she said. “All of my hobbies come from my mom, who loves them all and just wants to share what she loves with me.”
After graduation, Burchell plans to attend the University of Michigan, where she will pursue a degree in Kinesiology to become a board-certified athletic trainer. Her ultimate goal is to help others stay healthy and active, while also following her passion for sports and physical therapy.
“I'm choosing to go to college because I want to get a degree in what interests me,” Burchell said.
In the next 5-10 years, Burchell has one goal, which reflects her adventurous desire to experience all that life has to offer.
“I want to go to all 50 states at least once,” Burchell said.
If Hailey could relive any moment from high school, she would choose her very first pep rally. She recalled the excitement and energy that filled the air. Hailey describes her high school experiences as fast, wild, and free.
“It brought such amazing feelings,” Burchell said.
Burchell wants to leave a legacy at Flour Bluff ISD--her positivity and willingness to support others, make her a cherished member of the community.
“I hope to leave behind my attitude and make people feel like they have someone to reach out to,” Burchell said.
As she prepares for life after high school, Hailey offers some valuable advice to underclassmen. It’s clear that Hailey’s experiences at Flour Bluff have taught her the importance of staying true to herself and maintaining a positive outlook, no matter the challenges she may face.
“Live in the moment, the future can wait, and surround yourself with like-minded people who won’t bring you down,” Burchell said.
Burchell will be missed, but she is ready to take on the next chapter of her life.
