Senior Calli Cordell joined FBISD at an early age. Starting in second grade Cordell began her journey with the Flour Bluff community. Cordell talked about her love for the staff here at Flour Bluff ISD.
“I've had a lot of really good connections with teachers over the years, ones that make you feel connected like you feel like you have a safe space.” Cordell said.
In high school, she has engaged in multiple sports and extracurriculars. She started playing tennis in eighth grade, officially playing freshman and sophomore year on varsity, then and later joining Yearbook continuing her interest for 3 years and then securing the role of Editor in Chief on the Yearbook staff.
Cordell stated, “I am the last person that it goes to before the teacher, I make sure everything is in line and help people with whatever they have questions with, and makesure that they all feel like their work can be shown in the book but in a way that it works for how we’re trying to make it. We have a vision for it but we make sure to communicate with them so they can get better and better over the years. ”
Although extracurricular activities can be stressful, the best memories and experiences were made with her colleagues in Yearbook. With all the hardworking and determined staff, they completed the task of crafting a successful yearbook with grit.
“Submitting this year’s book on time was a roller coaster this year. A lot of problems that were happening made it seem like we were not going to finish on time, but a certain group of people stayed late and put in their time to make sure we did finish.” Cordell said.
She also appreciates and loves all her mentors throughout the past four years. Mrs. Brandewie, the Yearbook teacher, has been one of the most impactful relationships she had during high school.
“I've had her every single year of high school. She's very big on making her classroom a home, it was a room where I could finally sit down and breathe,” Cordell said. “It made me want to stay in Yearbook no matter how stressful it got.”
For the duration of her highschool years Cordell has reminisced on her experiences, thinking about advice she’d give to underclassmen navigating their way through these last four years.
“All four years add up to where you are at the end, definitely taking your first few years more seriously. It might seem like it doesn’t matter, but it will pay off at the end.” Cordell said.
When considering plans for after highschool, Cordell took into account her love for experimenting with manicures, but also her new interest in sonography.
“So my plans after graduation, I want to do cosmetology, so I can do hair and nails but as a side thing for me, because I'm thinking of going as a sonogram technician at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.” said Cordell.
