Meet Bob Chapman, Head Boys’ Soccer Coach, and Audio-Video Production Teacher. Chapman has deep roots in the Flour Bluff community. A proud alumni, graduating from Flour Bluff High School in 1994, Chapman returned to the district to give back to the place that shaped him. For 22 years, Flour Bluff High School has been home to a dedicated teacher and coach who combines his love for sports and media through his dual roles as the head boys’ soccer coach and audio-video production teacher.
Chapman finds value in both his roles, highlighting the importance of having certain qualities in both the classroom and on the field. Whether it’s teaching students to shoot videos or guiding players on the field, it’s all about putting in the effort to achieve goals.
“Both roles require the value of hard work, determination, and perseverance,” Chapman said.
For Chapman, being a part of the Flour Bluff community is a privilege. His pride in his community runs deep, sharing what he loves most about his job: being a big part of the Flour Bluff community.
“Being out in the community. It's a great community overall, with great kids, and it’s just fun to come into work every day," he shared.
His connection with the students and staff extends beyond the typical school day, forming bonds that last far into the future. The relationships he’s built with students, staff, and other teachers are a key part of his rewarding career.
“With kids, teachers, and staff, you can develop lifelong friendships,” he explained. “It's fun to see the kids growing up to be productive adults, and know you helped make that happen.”
Balancing the demands of teaching and coaching comes with its challenges, but he appreciates the variety and fulfillment both roles offer. Chapman acknowledges the stipulations of wearing multiple hats; having to manage the responsibilities of teaching audio-video production, where he helps students develop technical skills, alongside the high-energy demands of leading the boys’ soccer team requires his utmost dedication.
“It can be a lot, but it’s rewarding. Sometimes with both, I get a little break from the same old thing every day, so it’s fun,” Chapman said.
Chapman’s dedication to Flour Bluff goes beyond the classroom and soccer field. As a father, he has chosen to send his children to Flour Bluff ISD, continuing the legacy of being a Hornet in his own family.
“I support our school by sending my kids here…so not only did I go to school here, but this is also my twenty-second year teaching,” Chapman said.
When he eventually retires, Chapman hopes his contributions help to build a lasting legacy for the students he has mentored. He emphasizes the importance of empowering students to carry on the Flour Bluff school spirit.
“Not me, but with my help, the kids can continue the legacy of being a Hornet,” Chapman said.
Outside of school, Chapman enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, and tackling yard work. Despite his many commitments, his heart remains firmly rooted in the Flour Bluff community, where he continues to inspire students and athletes alike.
