At excellent students often discover activities that shape their high school experience. For Alexa Monroy, theater has become one of the most meaningful parts of that journey. Through performing, academics, and creativity, Alexa has found a place where she feels connected, motivated, and inspired. Although Alexa enjoys several hobbies outside of school, including playing tennis from time to time, she says theater is the activity that has become most important during high school of her enjoyment as a sophomore year of high school.

Her interest in performing began after attending productions at the Harbor Playhouse, where live performances made a lasting impression on her. One production in particular helped shape her future goals.
“It was me going to the Harbor Playhouse and watching A Christmas Carol, and I just thought, ‘That is what I want to do with my life,’” Monroy said.
She explained that musicals also played an important role in inspiring her interest in theater. Productions such as Hamilton encouraged her to participate in performances at school.
“All the shows I watched, like “ Hamilton "and"Christmas Carol” inspired me to do my first show here,” Monroy said.
In addition to theater, Alexa enjoys academics and says two classes stand out this year because they challenge her in different ways.
“I would say either Algebra 2 or Theater,” Monroy said. “Algebra 2 because I kind of like math, and Theater because I want to get better at theater.”
Alexa says staying focused in school requires both support and personal discipline. She credits her parents for helping her remain motivated and says music also helps her concentrate when completing schoolwork.

A teacher who has made a lasting impact on Alexa is Ms. Steward, whose kindness and understanding left a strong impression on her.
“Ms. Steward had a big impact on me because she was really kind and understood every student, no matter who they were,” Monroy said.
For Alexa, the theater room has become more than just a classroom. It is the place where she feels most comfortable because of the connection she shares with others there.

Outside of school activities, Alexa says many people may not realize she also enjoys drawing.

When asked what advice she would give other students, Alexa shared a simple but meaningful message.

Through her dedication to theater, her commitment to academics, and her creative interests, Alexa Monroy continues to represent the positive spirit of what it means to be a Hornet of the Hive.
