Our 5th graders are currently learning about Space. This includes:
Features of the Earth
Earth's place in the universe
Stars
Solar System
The moon
Navigating the Sky
Navigating the Sky
Soon, we will begin our second AMSTI kit! 5th graders will take a closer look at Outer Space. This will include:
Proving that the Earth is spherical in shape.
Learning about gravity around the world.
Identifying constellations in the night sky.
Phases of the moon.
Navigation using the stars.
Movement of shadows throughout the day.
Sunrise and sunset. Patterns of daylight.
Planets in the solar system.
Space craft design.
Engineering Lesson: Designing a parachute.
🧑🔬 This unit will have many hands-on learning opportunities such as:
Students will be able to use models of the Earth to prove the spherical shape.
Students will track shadows in the outdoor classroom.
Students will build their own navigation tools.
Students will study the stars and constellations using a website that accurately depicts the night sky.
Students will create a plan, build, and test out their own parachute design.
