This year, Flintridge Prep is proud to initiate a storytelling program on campus through a Pasadena-based company Words2Action. Storytelling is the through-line of humanity where culture is shared, experiences are transmitted, and wisdom sparks a fire for an audience to gather around. Giving a platform for storytelling opens up an avenue for individuals to self-express, celebrate identity, and discover the value of who they are through the words they craft. To be truthful and to be vulnerable is a practice of authenticity.
The 11-person cohort met in the BCB during Community Blocks, driven by nothing but curiosity to craft their narrative voice. Over time, they each developed a personal story that touched on some sort of transformation, big or small. The program concluded with a grand storytelling symposium, “Hear and Now: Stories Told Live,” a community event held in the Miller Theater with an invitation to the entire Flintridge Prep community to share in the experience. The theme of the evening was “Subtle Triumphs: Stories of Perseverence."
