In Fleming County Schools, students engage in three Next-Level Writing assessments each year, designed to measure growth and mastery in meaningful, real-world contexts. These Next-Level Writing benchmarks empower students through carefully crafted writing tasks selected to connect with students' interests, aspirations, and real-life experiences. Kindergarten students will participate in two writing benchmark assessments—one in the winter and another in the spring—to measure and support their growth as young writers.
Beyond these assessments, daily writing across all subject areas is essential to the district’s commitment to building strong writers. Students routinely engage in various writing activities, including short or extended responses, journaling, creative storytelling, informational reporting, and technical writing tied directly to authentic, real-world scenarios. Through this approach, Fleming County Schools ensures students continuously develop their ability to communicate clearly, think critically, and creatively address challenges they may encounter in the world beyond school.
