FRYSC AMERICORP POSITON
The FRYSC Youth Service Corps program is offered through FRYSC AmeriCorps to FRYSCs centers across Kentucky. This is a national service grant that provides education awards to individuals who commit to and complete 300 hours of service intended to remove barriers to learning for K to 12 students and families. After the service term is completed, the Youth Service Corps member would earn $1,290 toward their college tuition at an accredited facility.
The design of this AmeriCorps program supports FRYSCs career exploration and development component. High school students aged 17+ serve under the supervision of FRYSC coordinators. They get the opportunity to learn how FRYSCs address basic needs of school children. The student member has responsibility for supporting the center food relief program, asking for donations and managing storage and distribution of food items. Their service is not limited to their host FRYSC, they may volunteer with FRYSC partners who address basic and educational needs of students and families.
Students will plan a service schedule that includes some of the following activities
• Plan and complete a fundraiser (example: food or toiletry drive).
• Help plan & promote a FAFSA Workshop. (Student may work some with high school guidance office on some occasions)
• Help plan & present YSC programming such as Reality Store, Health Fair, Community Christmas and Operation Preparation.
• Support a local FRC program by distributing weekly food backpacks.
• Volunteer with a FRYSC community partner.
• Prepare and present about service experience to a local group (example: YSC Advisory Council, SBDM, Student group).
• Attend YSC advisory council Mtg and local city/county government open meeting.
Additional Requirements
The student serves 300 hours during the school year. FRYSC AmeriCorps recommends that students commit to 8-10 hours of service each week to finish by the end of the school year. Service days are not limited to school hours. After-school or weekend projects for the FRYSC, school, or with FRYSC community partners are strongly encouraged. All service must support basic needs and education of children and families. Service away from the school site must be verified by the site supervisor. Students may volunteer away from school with community partner nonprofits or government agencies (examples are 4-H, parks & rec, district afterschool child care programs).
Students will undergo a background check due to the vulnerable population which they will serve. Students will have some required training to attend as well and be required to complete weekly timesheets.
