A fusion of creativity, critical inquiry, and function. We’ll engage in fabric dying & batik, mosaic making, stained glass, jewelry design, public art installation, and more!
Hands-on making with the intention of enhancing lives with artfully made objects.
Prerequisites: Introduction to Visual-Communication Art (ART I)
SYLLABUS - Guardians/Parents please review the syllabus with your student (your student will need to open it for you from their FALA Google Account). Ask your student to invite you to our Google Classroom to receive updates, see project details, and photographs of final products your student has submitted.
● Sketchbook 5 x 7" or larger spiral or hardbound
● Fine and ultra fine black sharpie
● Erasers – Mars Staedtler White plastic and kneaded rubber
● Pencil & hand sharpener
● Apron/Smock *optional but recommended
*Be kind and work for the common good. Embody our Habits of Hand, HeART, Mind.
*Be respectful of faculty, peers, and campus environment including students’ artwork and workspace.
*Protect your work surface by putting down newspaper when working with wet media and using self-healing matts when cutting.
*Please keep your conversational volume to a level that can only be heard at your table. Be considerate of our small workspace.
*No speaking poorly of other students or teachers - not the FALA way. Save the drama for your (other) Llama.
*Students are individually responsible for classroom cleanup, working together for the common good of our shared space, tools, and equipment.
*Wash and put materials away (do not leave brushes, pallets, etc. in the drying racks).
*Cell phones must be on silent and stowed away in backpacks. No texting, no social media, no gaming.
*No working on non-art assignments.
*Art class is not a study hall for any other course including other arts courses.
*Any student finished with artwork and not using “free time” for art making, will be assigned cleaning and room organizing tasks (though the preference is ALWAYS that art time is used for art making).
*No wasting of supplies!!!! You can always pour more paint onto your pallet.
* Do not expect to use art supplies for other classes.
*Students must stay in the room at your table, or engaged in common good cleaning tasks, until the bell rings. No hanging out by the door waiting for the bell. Show investment in your artwork and workspace.
