Abstract:
Research question: How might emerging NATO-EU institutional ties advance for joint missions and potentially strengthen the Transatlantic relationship?

Significance of research question: At this critical juncture in Transatlantic relations, research and analysis in the field remain relatively limited on examining how US-European security and defense challenges might evolve quickly, particularly in the aftermath of the rapid and difficult withdrawal of forces and missions from Afghanistan by the US and NATO (August 2021).

This research project aims to explore how realistically and feasibly, in theory and in practice, a slowly developing NATO-EU institutional set of security and military linkages might actually result in cooperative, coordinated, and consistent planning for joint NATO-EU missions and operations.
