A Deep Dive into Evidence-Based Therapies for Autism Spectrum Disorder

Madison Stidham

Abstract:
Approximately 1 in 44 children are diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD). When faced with the diagnosis, there are many options for therapies parents/guardians can choose. The purpose of this project will be to help people make informed choices on the therapy they choose for their child. People will be better able to understand the options they have. This will be done by investigating evidence based therapies. One specific type of therapy is Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBI). NDBI has many different subtypes within it. This paper will specifically look at Pivotal Response Treatment and Milieu Teaching. Using online sources, articles and books information will be gathered to assess these different therapies. Using studies that have been done will also help with this assessment.
