Abstract:
End of Life (EOL) care concepts are important for the general public and healthcare professionals to understand and discuss. The sensitive nature of this topic often finds this to be a difficult discussion between patients and their families, patients and their providers, and even among healthcare team members. Information about where EOL care is practiced, who provides EOL care, EOL care experiences, and costs associated with EOL care are key pieces of information for patients and families to have in their decision-making process about the care that is received at the end of life. This literature review summarizes the different settings in which EOL care is provided as well as several variables related to the different settings in which patients receive EOL care.
