Fight or Flight

Jaxon Deary

A Poem

here we go again

he’s screaming and wailing.

like a fussy spoiled child

time to stop your plans

say goodbye to your friends

and go cater to all of his needs.

again.

he’s supposed to keep you safe

but all he does is get in the way.

he claws at your throat

fills your stomach with thick, black tar

and screams into your ear,

“LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!”

“YOU ARE NOT SAFE!”

yes, it does hurt

he tells you to run away

you can’t stay here

and you can’t tell them that.

what would they think?

‘why are you always freaking out?’

he grabs your tongue.

this is a warning

and you say nothing.

he clenches his cold arms around your stomach

numbing

how annoying.

i wish i knew how to make him shut up.
