Progeny

Abstract

Progeny is a lyrical documentary that utilizes visual imagery rooted in cinematography to observe the inner-workings of our planet. Working towards a biology minor has lead to my realization that life on Earth operates in singular moments. These moments are infinite, yet each one represents life existing wherever it pleases. When Advanced Documentary Production brought Emily, Brooke, and myself together, decided to conjoin our love for cinematography and use it to convey a message that was important to us: the life we observe on this Earth is far too often underappreciated. Progeny aims to portray beauty lying within the details. These terrestrial details are currently being threatened by synthetic creation and materialistic consumerism. Environmental conservation and resource sustainability is not a main priority for the majority of world leaders. However, the real problem lies not among these leaders themselves, but rather within the commercialized mindsets of those they are meant to represent. Too few have accepted a truth that personal possessions hold no value after eternal rest. The world is in need of a personal enlightenment to seek happiness in what is provided, rather than what is acquired. We hope Progeny can help reveal this truth, while cherishing the fragility and persistence life has in an eccentric and ethereal way.
