Crystal Hearts

Abstract

My Honors Thesis project is a fantasy novel entitled Crystal Hearts. Crystal Hearts is the story of a group of kids aged 18-24 whose sudden gene abnormalities lead them to be taken to a facility to be studied in order to understand what it is. We follow the stories of these children, namely the main character, Brooke, and their journey here. Each child is given a blank crystal that lights up with the color that their abnormality reflects. In the end, the characters learn that their abnormalities reflect what makes each of them unique, and find themselves along the way. In essence, this is a book about what our core values are based upon, whether that be love, strength, protection, etc. In order to research this project, I have read and examined many other fantasy novels, studying the ways authors build worlds, develop characters, and craft plots. I also took a course devote to writing the sci-fi/fantasy novel, in which I learned more of the details and necessities of crafting a novel of this caliber. My overall goal with this novel is to publish it and inspire others to embrace their uniqueness and the essence of their being, to realize that is all the power they truly need.
