The NFL Draft First Pick
By Reegan Hayward
It’s that time of year again; The NFL Draft. The NFL Draft is for the best of the best football players ready to join the NFL. This NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns got the first pick. They chose Baker Mayfield, a quarterback from the University of Oklahoma. Many people believed that the Browns should have picked Saquon Barkley, a running back from Penn State University. People also thought Cleveland should have picked other players like: Sam Darnold, Denzel Ward, and Bradley Chubb. Below is a graph of who Mrs. Sheaffer’s, and Mr. Wilson’s Interventions class thought the Browns should have picked.
Jesse Gomez and Durham Heiserman
The NFL draft was held in Dallas, Texas over a 3 day span. The draft is when college football players decide when to go professional and try to fulfill their dreams of playing in the NFL. There are 32 picks per round and 7 rounds. Many teams had many picks due to trade of the year. The worst teams get higher picks due to their record from the previous year. Like the Cleveland Browns who took Baker Mayfield with the 1st pick. You can trade your picks for players also. The raider got Martavious Bryant for a 3rd round draft pick.
The draft is a good way to restart your team and get better players to fill and improve your roster. Here is some live responses to the draft from the 7th graders from Donnell.
Hudson Goebel says “I like the pick of Minkah Fitzpatrick and he would be a really good safety.”
JJ Benjamin says “I feel like they would have done better if Ezekiel Elliott would be on the team all year and I feel like the Cowboys did pretty well in the draft.”
Connor Harp says “Baker Mayfield was a terrific pick and could throw the ball like 10 yards.”

Bens Simmons vs Donovan Mitchell
By Durham Heiserman and Connor Harp
Pretty much the Rookie of the year talk has came down to two players. Ben Simmons and Donovan Mitchell. Both players are very deserving to win the award. Donovan plays for the Utah Jazz who are the 5th seed in the west and Ben Simmons plays for the Philadelphia 76ers who are the 3rd seed in the east. Donovan Mitchell is averaging 20 ppg with 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Ben Simmons is averaging 15 ppg and 8 rebounds and 8 assist per game. Donovan Mitchell thinks he should win because Ben Simmons got drafted last year. Ben Simmons had foot surgery so the NBA said that wouldn’t count as his rookie year. Donovan Mitchell won the dunk contest this year. Ben Simmons believes he should win because he feels he is the better player.
Who do you think should win?
Western Playoff 1st Round NBA
By Luke Montgomery
The Western playoffs for the NBA has just started. The teams that made it are Houston Rockets,Minnesota Timberwolves,Oklahoma Thunder,Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers, New Orleans Pelicans, San Antonio Spurs, And Golden State Warriors.
The Houston Rockets are playing the Minnesota Timberwolves. I personally think that the Rockets will sweep the Timberwolves due to them having the first seed in the playoffs and having a very young team with 2 veterans that are the captains of the team.
The Oklahoma Thunder are playing the Utah Jazz. I think that the Thunder will win in a 6 game series do to the Thunder having 4 veterans that have been in the playoffs many times. Utah is a very young team that could win but the thunder are to skilled.
Portland Trail Blazers are play the New Orleans Pelicans. I think the underdog (Pelicans) will beat the Blazers in a 5 game series even tho the Pelicans are missing one of the best big man players in the NBA. But luckily for the Pelicans have another big man who is probably the best over all big man in the league.
The Golden State Warriors are playing the San Antonio Spurs.I think the Warriors will sweep the Spurs in a 4 game series. The warriors have won the NBA Finals 2 of the last 3 times so they are seeking back to back titles this year. The spurs have their best player not playing do to some reason we don’t know. Stay tooned for the Eastern Conference coming soon.
Why The Browns will Win The Super Bowl
By Durham Heiserman
Last year after seeing us go 0-16 you thought no way we can get even close to the Super Bowl right? Well you’re wrong. The Browns have signed Jarvis Landry, Tyrod Taylor, Carlos Hyde, and more. We got rid of many people who did nothing at all. We have the most cap space in the NFL and have the first and fourth pick of the draft. I think the Browns should draft Saquon Barkley then get a player in the secondary maybe Denzel Ward. With Tyrod Taylor at QB I think the Browns will be good at the QB position and I don’t think the Browns need a QB at this time.Tyrod has been to the pro bowl and has been to the playoffs which the Browns need. The Browns have many draft picks and hopefully they pick well. Hopefully the browns live up to expectations.
