We want to emphasize how important regular school attendance is for your child’s success. Every day at school is a building block for learning, connection, and growth.

Research shows that students who miss just two days a month—what we call chronic absenteeism—are more likely to fall behind academically. Over time, these absences add up. In fact, students who are chronically absent in elementary school are much less likely to read at grade level by third grade, which is a strong predictor of future academic achievement. By the time students reach 5th grade, attendance patterns often shape their confidence, classroom engagement, and readiness for the more demanding work ahead in middle school and beyond.

Consistent attendance not only supports academic progress, but also helps students build routines, friendships, and a sense of belonging. At Tom McCall, we’re committed to making every day engaging and meaningful, and we want every student here to benefit fully.

If your child is struggling with attendance for any reason, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to support you.
