Virtual Pinoy Camp
Oral Family History
August 10-14, 2020
We are so excited to provide you and your families with a new kind of program this year! As you know, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to offer any in-person programming. However, thanks to our motivated leadership and volunteers, we are proud to present you and your children with virtual offerings and content this year.
Our campers will be able to meet with their teachers in small groups over Zoom to explore their Filipino heritage and their Filipino-American identities through conversation, research, and historical context. Each camper will be asked to discuss their own family's history and journey from the Philippines to the United States, and engage with their peers about their unique experiences. We hope that each camper will be encouraged to continue this dialogue throughout the year, and be curious about their cultural backgrounds.
We will start Virtual Pinoy Camp this year with a virtual welcome meeting for parents and campers on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 5:00 P.M. All parents and campers are welcome to hear from our Presidents, Neme Sirilan and Michelle Weddle, about their vision and goals for this year's camp. In the week that follows, each camper will meet with their grade-level peers and two teachers who will facilitate their learning experience. The Zoom schedule is as follows:
Pre-K to 1: Tuesday (8/11) and Friday (8/14) 11am-12pm
Grade 2: Monday (8/10) and Thursday (8/13) 1pm-2pm
Grade 3: Monday (8/10) and Thursday (8/13) 11am-12pm
Grades 4 and 5: Tuesday (8/11) and Friday (8/14) 1pm-2pm
Grades 6 and 7: Monday (8/10) and Thursday (8/13) 12pm-1pm
Grades 8, 9, and 10: Monday (8/10) and Friday (8/14) 2pm-3pm
On the first of the two sessions, campers will have the opportunity to get to know their peers and be guided by their teachers in starting a conversation with their loved ones about their family's history. On the second of the two sessions, the campers will present what they have learned from their families during the week. To assist the campers and give them further direction and advice, the campers may choose to join an optional check-in with one of our volunteers on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 1pm to 2pm.
All of the Zoom information will be sent to each parent via email on Friday, August 7, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, please email firstname.lastname@example.org! We look forward to seeing you at Virtual Pinoy Camp this year!
