How It Felt supported Feeling Strong's Art Night young peoples group in creating their own life sized puppets and creative outcome of short films around their own mental health and well-being. The HIF team facilitated and supported the young people during the workshops as they created their own puppet characters of themselves or someone they identify with. During the workshops HIF prompted discussion around mental health and well-being while building relationships with the young people and allowing them to lead the discussions. The young people also lead the film work with their own ideas and themes while learning puppet making, puppeteering/drama, camera and recording skills, and team building. The young people also learned about creative and digital equipment skills. The outcome of the project was to help support the young people's resilience and confidence exploring their own mental health in fun and creative ways, while also helping them build relationships and empowerment with their voices through puppetry and creative outcomes. The project was celebrated by a small film premiere and display of the puppets and any artwork created during the project with the young people/staff to attend. The young people were then able to keep their puppets and any copies of the film they wish to keep.
