We hosted our first ever Game Jam on the 13th & 14th of August! The purpose of our Game Jam was to encourage young people aged 16-26 to come together and meet other like minded individuals. The theme of the Game Jam was mental health to encourage young people to discuss their experiences in a fun and creative way.
The event ran over two days with refreshments and pizza provided. There was also prizes for the winning teams!

A game jam is an event where participants try to make a video game from scratch. Participants can work independently, or in teams. Participants are generally programmers, game designers, artists, writers, or musicians. You don't need to have any game making experience however, because you could also do a board game or a card game! If you are interested sign up using the links provided and we look forward to seeing you!
Unfortunately, we are unable provide any equipment so make sure to bring what you need along on the day! We can provide basic craft materials and use of our printer.
If you are making a video game, here is a list of free software we would recommend:
Game Engines: 3D Modelling: Art/Illustration: Audio/Music:
Once the games have been completed, we will have judges from local games companies play the games and decide on who the winners are. Prizes will be given out to the teams who come first, second and third!
After the Game Jam is over, the completed games will be uploaded to our website for users to play so make sure to check in again for that!
We had great fun hosting our very first Game Jam this year! The theme of the Game Jam was mental health and to make things a bit more challenging for our teams, we added in diversifiers that groups could chose to follow. These diversifiers were: eat your greens, include something from your surroundings, and create a game that can be understood regardless of language.
All of the teams made amazing games that we had great fun playing and it looked like everyone had a great time making their games! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came along and took part- we couldn't have done it without you.
A huge thank you also goes out to Hyper Luminal games for taking their time to come out and judge our games as well as providing prizes!
Below are images and links to the games for you to have a look at and give a try yourself!
Geo Peers is a game about peer support and the different ways you can do that from talking to people to helping them with their problems. We used game maker studio as our group had very little experience in game development. From here we made a game reminiscent of old Zelda games as we all loved these growing up. As a group, we really enjoyed our time at the game jam and are extremely happy with the way the game turned- out bugs and all.
Unfortunately, we do not have any images from Geo Peers yet but we hope to have some soon. However in the meantime you can download and play Geo Peepers for yourself using the link below!
Not all Doom and Gloom is a board game delving into the everyday struggles of mental health and coping mechanisms. Players move around the board with the objective of completing their player cards. To complete their cards, players must land on an action space (the green ones) and fight off a monster card using their coping mechanisms (these are picked up on the yellow spaces). Once a player completes their card they can then offer support to other players and the game keeps going!
NEEDS is an adventure following a little dinosaur around the galaxy on a journey of self-discovery and wellbeing. Based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, this game challenges you to explore new planets to find all the ways you can build good mental health, meet many characters and bring back your knowledge to your home planet!
The game concept was 'Synapse City', a game in which you play P.I. Neuron, a noir detective who lives in the brain of a boy named Sam. P.I. Neuron is looking for Sarah Tonin, who has gone missing. As you move through the brain, you encounter various personifications of Sam's personality and help to clear the dark clouds from Sam's brain, eventually being re-united with Sarah Tonin on completion of the game.
