Welcome to the Sewanee Elementary School Library website!
The library supports all aspects of the curriculum and is a resource to students and teachers alike. Adventures and information are accessible to readers of all abilities and interests. Through weekly library instruction and open access to the library materials, students can explore new places and new ideas and spend some time with amazing characters.
The pages of the SES Library website are designed to help you understand and navigate the library and find just what you need.
Mission of the library
The mission of the Sewanee Elementary School Library is to support the development of lifelong learners and readers through collaboration with the classroom teachers, direct instruction of reading comprehension and information literacy skills, and by providing an abundance of age-appropriate reading materials in a wide array of genres. The resources of the library are used to help students develop the skills needed to ask insightful questions, find resources to answer those questions, critically think about the information they discover and enjoy the adventures offered through reading.
Google Classroom Codes
Your student must join Mrs. Bruce's Library Classroom in order to receive Library Assignments. To join a google classroom, students must log into their @fcstn.net account. Then they choose the google classroom icon from the google apps menu (the nine little dots). Then they enter the code for their grade level (codes are listed below).
Once you have joined your grade's library classroom, you can click on the links below!

Sometimes, you may go to your Seesaw account. There is one for each grade. The link should be in your google classroom assignment. The link to Seesaw may also be in your "bookmarks bar". You may need to tell the program you are a student and then choose "sign in with Google", and select your name. You will need to allow your microphone and your camera to work to complete some activities.
Here is a video explaining how students use Seesaw.
Here is a document explaining how students respond to activities assigned in Seesaw. There will always be instructions for each activity.
Here is the link to sign in to Seesaw. It will also be provided in your google classroom. SES students sign in with their Google account (about minute 1:37 on the video).
Library Check-Out Policies--What to know
Each in-person student is expected to check out at least one book each week during their "library day." Ideally, the book the student checks out should be one that he/she can practice reading. Mrs. Bruce helps suggest books for each student based on their interests and reading skills, but students make their own choices. Virtual learners may borrow a book from any library, including the SES library or choose to read an online book.
How many books can a student check out?
1 book per week for kindergarten students
2 books per week for grades 1-5
When are books due?
Books are due each week on the "library day" for each class. Students are expected to bring their book to the library each week.
Report cards may be held until the book is returned or payment is given for lost book.
What if my student loses a book?
Payment for the book (cash or check) is expected. No refunds are given for books later found.
