A few things about me? When I was in high school, I was a marching/concert band kid (clarinet & bass clarinet). I graduated as rank #17 in my class of 2011. Teaching has always been in my blood, inspired by my grandmother who was a special education teacher.
My interests include reading, technology, graphics and web design, and video games. However, I also identify as a writer and author. In my spare time, I've been known to write and publish a variety of works, including novels, children's books, poetry, and even narrative, choice-based video games (visual novels). I find expressing oneself with such creativity to be a freeing and rewarding experience, a passion I strive to pass onto my students!
I have experienced much tragedy and grief in a relatively short (and recent) amount of time in my life. This has somewhat molded me into the educator I am today. My priority is to be a leader in the classroom that demonstrates empathy and patience; my experiences help me understand other difficult situations my students may face. Therefore, my teaching style focuses much on the "whole-child" perspective, where I consider social-emotional needs as well as educational and intellectual ones!
Even so, my students and I work hard in my class to accomplish our learning targets! They will understand responsibility, maturity, and respecting boundaries as they emerge into this world as young adults in my class! While I am caring, my expectations are high for all my students because I understand what they are capable of in terms of reading, writing, and self-discipline.
To err is also to be human! I encourage students to bring any mistakes I make to my attention! Sometimes I type a grade wrong in Skyward; sometimes I misread or misunderstand a reading passage myself. I welcome when students and parents bring any concerns to my attention so I can provide the best experience for everyone who enters my classroom!
Finally, I look forward to having a great year with everyone!
Much love,
Kelly Bahney
