Prerequisite: 85 in Health and PE, Teacher recommendation
The class consists of learning the proper stretching techniques, playing such sports as basketball, softball, flag football, badminton, volleyball, indoor soccer, and frisbee. A two-week physical conditioning unit is also taught.

The health portion of the course offers a comprehensive treatment of personal and community health and safety. The physical education section stresses participation in activities, which help develop basic motor skills. Skills are taught for some team participation.

Students learn the history, basic skills, and rules associated with many traditionally and non-traditional sports such as (but not limited to ) basketball, soccer, flag football. softball, volleyball. team handball. floor hockey, lacrosse, and ultimate Frisbee. This course emphasizes cooperation, sportsmanship., active participation and development of personal fitness.

This course will cover what an Athletic Trainer is and what services they provide for athletes, such as injury prevention, injury recognition, etc., as well as First-Aid/CPR. Students will get the chance to learn through hands-on experience through assisting with after school sports activities and events. Through those experiences the students will have the opportunity to enhance their communication, time management, and responsibility skills.
Students that sign up for this course will commit to working a minimum of one sport season (fall, winter, spring) which encompasses attending practices and helping with home games..
The expectations of the Sports Medicine Program include, but are not limited to, a minimum of a 2.0 GPA, being available for after school activities (practice, games, etc.). Students must obtain their own transportation to and from after school activities. Students in the Sports Medicine program are required to log a minimum of 10 hours per week and attend all practices.

This course will consist of lifting through a strenuous upper and lower body workout, running, and physical conditioning. It is designed to improve fundamentals that will prevent injury on athletic fields and for the person serious about his/her strength and physical conditioning.
