Alternative Education

As a school counselor, my goal is to support the healthy growth and development of children and families by creating an environment of trust, support, communication, and the use of Restorative Practices. In my direct work with students I strive to help them identify their inner strengths, see life through different perspectives, and discover what inspires them. I believe in supporting learning by providing a stimulating environment that encourages students to develop their understanding of our ever-changing world. These practices are reinforced through the use of developmentally-appropriate student-centered curriculum through Big Picture Learning. Big Picture Learning allows the advisor/instructor the opportunity to personalize each student’s education to their individual needs, talents and interests. Being student-centered creates education that is relevant and engaging for each student with an emphasis on real-world learning. Students are further supported using the perspective of multiple-intelligences, anti-bias principles, and keeping up with current research and best practices.
