At Fazoli’s, we work hard to make sure everything is “just right” for our Guests. From the look and feel of our dining room decor to the colors and design of our packaging materials, everything communicates a message to our Guests about who we are and what our brand is all about. The same is true when it comes to the appearance and demeanor of our Associates. You are an important part of the Fazoli’s experience for Guests and a neat, professional appearance and service mentality play a key role in determining Guest satisfaction and loyalty.
Professional appearance and demeanor does not mean that we must all look and act the same way. In fact, Fazoli’s celebrates the individuality and diversity each Associate brings to our team. The purpose of our Grooming and Personal Appearance policy is to define and clarify the balance that must exist between self-expression at work and the level of professionalism expected by our Guests. Accordingly, Fazoli’s Grooming and Personal Appearance policy has been updated. These standards are reflected on the Appearance Guide (byou receive with your Training Packet, but no additional training or communication about these changes is planned at this time.
Local Compliance and Enforcement
In the event local health department regulations differ from Fazoli’s grooming and personal appearance standards, either in part or in its entirety, the health department regulations shall take precedence and will be adopted as the Fazoli’s standard within the jurisdiction of the governing health department.
Similarly, when applying the grooming and appearance standards detailed within this policy, local Fazoli’s management, in their sole discretion, reserves the right to assess and determine if Associates are in compliance with all aspects of the grooming and appearance policy. If an Associate is not in compliance with one or more components of the policy, the Associate must remedy the issue(s) before beginning and/or continuing their current and future scheduled shifts.
Personal Hygiene
Associates should shower/bathe daily and use an effective deodorant. Teeth should be brushed regularly and mouthwash or breath spray used as needed . A lightly scented perfume, cologne or after-shave may also be used.
Hands and Fingernails
Fingernails must be kept clean and properly filed to within 1/4-inch from the fingertip.
Due to potential for chipping, extremely long nails, press-on nails and/or polished or colored nails are not permitted.
Acrylic or gel nails (non-colored or solid-color polish) are permissible. Extreme colored nails such as black, florescent, painted designs, etc. are not permitted. Intact gloves in good repair must be worn when working with exposed foods.
Local management retains the right to determine what is acceptable and what is not.
Before starting work, Associates must thoroughly and rigorously wash their hands, including the back and tops of hands, wrists, between the fingers and underneath the nails, as well as all exposed portions of the arms, with soap and water (100° for at least 20 seconds). Additionally, hands and exposed portions of arms must be washed as frequently as necessary throughout each shift. Associates must wash their hands after eating, drinking, smoking, using the restroom, sweeping, mopping, cleaning or taking out the trash.
Hair
Hair must be clean, well groomed/styled, and must be worn up or cut to at least one inch above the collar (see image below)
All Associates, as well as managers working in the back-of-house, must wear a black Fazoli’s cap/visor at all times (provided) or an approved hairnet if required by local health department regulations.
Hair color must be natural; bright or unnatural colors and/or highlights such as pink, red, orange, purple, blue or green, etc. are not permissible.
Facial Hair
Facial hair, including beards, mustaches and goatees, is permitted and must be neatly trimmed and maintained at 1/8” or less.
Makeup
Makeup that promotes a fresh, clean, natural look may be worn when applied with discretion and moderation.
Extreme or bright colored makeup or highlights, such as red, orange, purple, black, orange, blue, green, etc. are not permitted.
Jewelry & Accessories
Only simple jewelry that is in good taste, does not interfere with work and is easily kept sanitized, may be worn while working, including a wristwatch and one ring on each hand.
Loose fitting jewelry, including bracelets, wristbands or other items that might easily fall off, may not be worn while working.
Necklaces may be worn under the uniform but should not be visible.
Approved Fazoli’s service and award pins may be worn on the uniform and/or Fazoli’s black cap/visor.
Earrings
As many as two small post earrings may be worn in each ear
Hoop-style earrings and/or dangling earrings are not permitted.
Ear gauges and tunnels are not permitted.
Non permissible ear adornments may not simply be covered to appear compliant.
Facial Piercings
One small stud may be worn on the nose.
Visible and/or multiple rings/hoops or other types of facial piercings located in areas other than the nose (tongue, eyebrow, lip, etc.) are not permitted.
Tattoos and Body Art
Except for the face and neck area, visible tattoos and body art are permissible if the visible component is non-offensive and non-controversial. Local management retains the right to determine what is acceptable and what is not.
Visible tattoos and body art that is deemed inappropriate must be covered by clothing.
Shoes & Socks/Hose
Black, slip-resistant shoes protect Associates from slippery floor conditions that are prevalent in a restaurant environment and should be worn at all times. A sturdy shoe also offers support for the feet and legs during prolonged periods of standing and walking.
Clean, black socks and/or hose that extend above the ankle must be worn at all times.
Eating, Drinking, Smoking and Gum/Tobacco Chewing
Eating, drinking and smoking are restricted to designated areas during breaks and meal periods. Drinks may not be maintained in food preparation areas and/or areas within view of our Guests, such as the front counter, the steam table, sandwich station, drive-thru, etc.
Gum, tobacco and/or other chewable items may not be used while on duty and tobacco is expressly prohibited from being brought into the restaurant.
E-Cigarettes are considered equivalent to tobacco products and are prohibited.
Smoking and vaping paraphernalia (including tobacco products, lighters, vapor tanks/pens, etc. may not be kept on one’s person while working and must be stored away and accessed only during regularly scheduled breaks and meal periods.
Changing Grooming and Appearance Standards
Societal norms and health department regulations regarding grooming and appearance standards can change frequently. Fazoli’s Grooming and Appearance policy will be updated as needed to reflect such changes.
In the event local health department regulations differ from Fazoli’s grooming and personal appearance standards regarding fingernails or any other area of the policy, either in part or in its entirety, the health department regulations shall take precedence and will be adopted as the Fazoli’s standard within the jurisdiction of the governing health department.
If in doubt as to whether a personal grooming or appearance feature is compliant with this policy, ask your supervisor for clarification before reporting to work.
