About Mrs. Minor

After earning a degree in Chemistry from Indiana State University, I worked in a Pesticide lab (testing everything from Tyson Chicken to Oreo ice cream). I moved to what I though was my dream job--working in research at St. Jude Children's Hospital, under the direction of Dr. Parker Suttle. While I enjoyed my time at this marvelous institution and developed a deep respect for the work accomplished there (and the children treated there), I found my true dream job in teaching high school Chemistry. I have been teaching in Fayette County Public Schools for 20 years and taught in Indiana 3.5 years before that. My husband, Scott, and I (married 37 years) met in our high school Chemistry class over 40 years ago. Our three adult daughters live all across the United States and keep us busy. They are certainly our pride and joy!! We welcomed our first grandson, in January 2019, followed by our first granddaughter in October 2020. Our second granddaughter arrived in May 2021. Time with our grandchildren are the best moments! When I am not teaching ( a true passion of mine), I love to scrapbook, garden, sew, crochet, cross-stitch and do all kinds of crafty things, and I am an avid reader. Our family loves to travel. As of this summer, my husband and I have visited all 50 States (Hawaii--which also happens to be the country's 50th state was our vacation destination in 2022). I have a passion for missions and meeting the educational needs of students in two particular areas of Kenya--Nairobi and Mombasa. Our family has traveled there several times in the last 10+ years and we are actively working to establish a reliable water delivery system for a school's Chemistry lab outside Nairobi and and a separate orphanage and village. Two years ago I was selected to participate in the NASA Airborne Astronomy Ambassadors Program which afforded me training in astrophysics and planetary science, content and pedagogy. In January 2022, I traveled to California for a week-long immersion experience at NASA’s Flight Research Center Hangar 703 in Palmdale, California, with participation in research flights aboard NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA (Links to an external site.)). The program culminates in classroom delivery of a SOFIA science-oriented curriculum module. Recently, I started listening to podcasts. So, if you know of an interesting series, let me know. Finally, I am the Senior Class sponsor so I spend much of my time, at school, working with the Senior Class officers planning Senior Benefit, Prom, and Graduation.
