A.D.E stands for Active, Dormant and Extinct. 

Active means that it is actively erupting from the Tectonic plates moving.

Dormant means sleeping as it can erupt but it hasn't for a long time

Extinct means they are never going to erupt again and it has to not erupt for 10,000 years for it to be declared extinct
