Last Saturday 4th of January there was a very first tournament of the season for our Faribault archers.
It was a nice thing that the first time happened to be at home in the Faribault High School gym. Archers are proud of how their team got bigger from last year. Even though it is not the most popular sport, many students both from High School and Middle School were excited to start their season.
High school shot from 8 to 9 am and middle school from 9 to 10 am. The event went smoothly and we thank everyone who helped with setting stuff up, helped during the tournament and also helped after taking everything down.
Even with a lot of new shooters, high schoolers and middle school shooters did really well! Everyone is welcome to come support our archer team at their next tournament this Saturday 11th of January in White Bear Lake High School. Hope to see you there and we wish archers the best luck for the season!- By Hana Trnkova
Snow, cold and darkness - that's what the month of December mostly looks like. The only thing students are really looking forward to, is Christmas break which will finally give them a break from school and everything around it. But there is one Saturday night in December at Faribault Highschool that is filled with fun, laughter and dancing.
On Saturday, December 7, 2024 the Sadies Winter Formal took place at Faribault Highschool. The gym was decorated, turning it into a dancefloor. It was an event that promised an evening of laughter and unforgettable memories. Students arrived in their best outfits, excited for a night of fun and celebration. Grand March started at 7pm for spectators to watch and the dance began at 8pm.
As music played, students took the dancefloor, enjoying the chance to celebrate with friends and dates. Leah Nowaczewski said "I had an amazing time. "It was great to see everyone having fun and just enjoying the night together!" Groups gathered for photos, capturing moments that will be cherished memories and reminders.
Hana Trnkova said "I wasn't sure what to expect, since this was my first Sadies winter dance, but the atmosphere was amazing and everyone was really friendly. The music was great and I loved the decorations. I will definitely remember it!"
Many students attended the event, making it a successful evening for everybody. Students had a carefree and fun night, while a few teachers were chaperoning and ensuring everyone was having a great time. As the night came to an end, the last song was played and students made their way home. All in all the Winter Formal at Faribault Highschool was a magical evening that will be remembered in the future. See you next year!
Meteor shower lasts until January 16h, but it is going to peak tonight and tomorrow! The shower tonight will be caused by the asteriod 2003 EH1. Although they lack the bright trails often associated with meteor showers, they often produce bright fireballs that make up for it. The best viewing times are between midnight and dawn, but they should be visible for most of the night.
A student of many interests, Principal Olson knows what it means to be a busy student. Principal Olson recently sat down with the FHS Journalism Club to talk about his time at FHS as a student and now as Principal:
"We were in the old building before it was added on, and only had grades 10-12. I loved being in school. I Was in band, football, wrestling, and was in the student council. I ran the blood drive for student council. I still have friends from FHS and still talk to some of them today. I also had my dad as a teacher. That was an interesting experience."
The school was smaller and had no AP classes, no College in the schools. At the time 98% of the students were white and a small percent were people of color. The school didn’t have many options to guide us for life after high school. The school had two counselors and a small careeer center. A lot of the planning for post high school rested on the students and parents to figure it out.
Principal Olson Likes is building partnerships with local organizations to help students. Today partnerships include Healthfinders, HCI and other local support organizations for students and families. Community School has been the newest addition, providing students with after school programs, The Nest and also helping families secure help with many needs. He sees it as important to pair FHS with outside organizations like South Central College, Mankato State, Riverland College and Southwest State, to provide college credits for students for for free.
Mr. Olson believes mental health is the focus of Faribault High school, and he likes appreciates the staff who help kids from all cultures. We have many people who can speak the language and guide students and families as they navigate high school.
Mr. Olson said he enjoys lunch duty, hanging out with the students and wants to support students on anything they may need. He knows our teachers are here to help students and appreciates all they do. He says his job is to support the people doing the work and provide them with the help so they can help students.
