The Faribault Business Academy is an innovative program that engages high school students with real business applications and networking opportunities. The Business Academy is offered within the Faribault High School Business Department, which offers twelve courses taught by Mr. Kegler and Mr. Dunnigan.

DECA Members Attend Feed My Starving Children
On Thursday, November 7th, 40 members of Faribault DECA attended the Community Service Project at Feed My Starving Children in Eagan, MN. Students helped pack 161 boxes of food equaling 61,440 meals to help feed 169 children for a full year in Nicaragua. Students celebrated their achievement by attending the Mall of America for lunch. Kelsie DeMars named DECA State Officer
Senior Kelsie DeMars was named the District 1 State Officer representative. She will serve the 2019-2020 school year as the Minnesota Vice President of Chapter Development. Kelsie is a highly-decorated, 4th year Faribault DECA member that has competed at the State Career Development the past 3 years and attended the 2019 ICDC Thrive Academy in Orlando, FL.
Faribault Competes at 2019 DECA ICDC
On March 27-30, 9 members of the Faribault DECA chapter competed and attended leadership conferences in Orlando, FL. Along with the competition, students had the opportunity to see the Blue Man Group, attend Universal Studios, Disney World, and visit Cocoa Beach.
Faribault Team Competes in 2019 State Finance Championships
On April 17, 2019, a team of Faribault students comprised by Madelyn Wehe, Erica Johnsrud, Abby Svien, and Jackie Meier finished in the top 8 in the 2019 Minnesota Council on Economic Education Personal Finance Decathlon. The competition was held at the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank. More than 120 teams competed in the competition with the top teams advancing to the competition.
Faribault DECA Wins State Awards
On March 4-6, Faribault DECA competed at the Minnesota State DECA Career Development Conference in Minneapolis, MN. Madelyn Wehe and Erica Johnsrud place 7th in the School Based Enterprise Competition. Jackie Meier received a medal for a top test score in Personal Finance. Brett Thomas, Taylor Velishek, Ryann Louis, Ashley Underdahl, Kylie Petricka, and Kennedy Whillock were presented with state champion plaques for finishing top in the state in their Virtual Business competitions. Madelyn Wehe and Kelsie DeMars were presented with Outstanding Member awards. Mr. Kegler was presented with an Outstanding Advisor award.
Faribault DECA Qualifies 40 Students for the 2019 State Competition
On Friday, January 11, Faribault DECA competed at the District 1 DECA Competition at Christian Family Church and World Outreach Center in Owatonna, MN. Despite a very young team, the students qualified 40 students and brought back 31 district medals including district champions Erica Johnsrud and Madelyn Wehe along with 18 silver medals.
Thomas Qualifies for ICDC in Virtual Business
Senior Brett Thomas finished as the Minnesota State Champion and Central Region Runner-Up in the Virtual Business Challenge Restaurant simulation that ended on November 2, 2019. To read more about Brett follow the link.
42 Students Attend DECA Fall Leadership Conference
On October 28-29, 2018, 42 members of the Faribault High School DECA program attended the annual Fall Leadership Conference. During the two day event students listened to motivational speakers and attended workshop sessions. The workshops consisted of career advice such as making positive first impressions and dressing professionally. Career speakers in the areas of entrepreneurship, hospitality, and marketing from the Minnesota Vikings, and several major companies among the featured lineup. Members also attended sessions geared toward competition success in DECA such as acing the marketing cluster exam, presenting a written paper, how to interview, and how to thrive doing a role-play event.
Business Students Attend Minnesota Timberwolves Business Club Day
On Tuesday, November 13, 2018, 40 business students attended the Minnesota Business Club Day at Target Center to learn about careers in the sports and entertainment industry. Students listened to speakers, had small group forums, and received a ticket to an upcoming Timberwolves game. Speakers included a Minnesota Lynx player, marketing experts, membership directors, and the radio play by play broadcaster amongst others.
Business Students attend Valleyfair Marketing Day
On Thursday, May 24th, twenty students from the DECA program, Intro to Business class, and AP MicroEconomics class attended the Valleyfair Marketing Day. The students had the opportunity to watch a visual presentation about careers in the areas of marketing and social media. Students were able to participate in a question and answer session with four of Valleyfair's marketing executives. Park prizes were awarded for asking or answering questions.
