Entry to the course is open to all officers duly designated as Ship Security Officer (SSO) by the shipping company.
They must be medically fit to enable them to participate in all aspects of the training particularly the practical exercises.
Course Intake Limitations
The number of trainees shall not exceed twenty-four (24) per class.

Requirements and procedures for conducting internal audits, on-scene inspections, control and monitoring of security activities
Requirements and procedures for reporting to company security officer
Security-related contingency plans and the procedures for responding to security threats or breaches of security
Assess security risk, threat and vulnerability

Techniques used to circumvent security measures
Recognition of persons posing potential security risks
Implementing and coordinating searches
Methods for physical searches and non-intrusive inspections
Recognition of weapons, dangerous substances and devices and awareness of the damage they can cause

Undertake regular inspections of the ship to ensure that appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained
