Last Time Out
The Diplomats are coming off a 3-0 week that was highlighted by a 16-15 overtime victory against No. 4 Salisbury. The Diplomats scored the last eight goals in that overtime thriller and are now up to No. 3 in this week's national poll. Gillian Brennan capped the comeback with her free-position goal just 59 seconds into the first overtime session. That came after F&M scored seven consecutive goals during the final 7:53 of regulation time to force the extra session. Brennan tallied the final three goals of the Diplomats' victory, with two of those coming in the final minute of regulation while those final three goals came in just 1:46 of total playing time.
Brennan was one of three F&M players who scored four goals against Salisbury, as Lane Lambeth and Lauren Pittman also accomplished that feat. Pittman additionally had a school record 14 draw controls which proved pivotal in helping the Diplomats to a commanding 24-11 advantage in that category. The free-position was also a fitting way to win the game after F&M scored four goals on its nine FPS attempts while limiting the Sea Gulls to no goals and just two attempts on free-position shots.
Franklin & Marshall started the week with a pair of Centennial Conference victories as the Diplomats defeated both Swarthmore (16-3) and McDaniel (20-5).
Last Time vs. Rowan
Lauren Selawski scored four goals and assisted on three more to lead the-then No. 3 Diplomats to a 13-10 win during the 2011 season. Her final tally of the day held up as the game winner. Rowan possessed patiently throughout the first half and took a 4-3 lead with 10:43 left in the period on Michelle Lubrano's first goal of the game. The Diplomats' (2-0) Erin Dunne took the ensuing draw and found Selawski parked behind the net. Selaswki fed a cutting Cat Serpe who buried a shot in the lower right side to knot it at 4-4. Anne Brockmeyer won the next draw on a foul. On the restart, she hit Serpe on the right flank for an unopposed run that finished in the lower right corner 25 seconds after her first.
The Diplomats led the rest of the way, largely because Selawski went to work. Serpe's pair sparked an 8-2 run on the Rowan cage that saw Selawski factor on in on four-straight. Her second goal of the day closed the first half of scoring at 8-5 in favor of F&M. She provided a brilliant feed to a cutting Lauren Ehrhardt for the first goal of the second half before turning in another goal of her own less than two minutes later. The sophomore rolled out from behind the cage and buried a left-hander in the top left corner making it 10-5.
Last Time vs. Washington College
The No. 2 Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team found itself in unfamiliar territory as the Diplomats trailed Washington College by a 4-1 score after 20 minutes. Nevertheless, F&M certainly flipped the switch from that point on as it outscored the Shorewomen 17-2 over the final 40 minutes of regulation during an 18-6 Centennial Conference win. That win also marked head coach Mike Faith's 150th career victory leading the Diplomats.
Lydia Cassilly led the Diplomats in scoring on Saturday with four goals. O'Shea celebrated Senior Day with four points (3g, 1a) of her own, while Kane, Gillian Brennan, Kate McLam, Marino, and Sarah Delaney all added multi-point afternoons to the team's win. Franklin & Marshall's highest scoring period was the second as it poured in seven goals to turn a 4-1 deficit into an 8-4 halftime advantage. Cassilly and Brennan each scored twice during that period, with Lane Lambeth, O'Shea, and Delaney also getting into the scoring act.
