Last Week
Franklin & Marshall will look to finish off the 2024 season on a high note while sending their seniors out with a win against the Red Devils after dropping Centennial Conference matchups against Washington College and Muhlenberg last week. Against the Shoremen, F&M went toe-to-toe under the lights of Shadek Stadium. The Diplomats trailed just once prior to the fourth quarter, but a 4-1 advantage for the Shoremen over those final 15 minutes was enough to steal an 11-10 win from the hosts. James Moroney led the attack with a hat trick, while Kai Kelly and Jack Luviano each rattled the back of the cage twice. The two teams finished with an identical 45 shots and 14 saves. Teddy Scarborough stopped 14 of the 25 shots on goal he faced as F&M held a 27-18 edge in shots during the first 30 minutes before the Shoremen took the upper hand during the final 30 minutes.
In their most recent meeting against Muhlenberg - which was also the team's final road game of the season - the Diplomats fell to host Muhlenberg by an 11-4 final in Allentown. Muhlenberg got out to the early 3-0 lead with the only goals of the opening period. Muhlenberg scored its first goal just 1:03 into regulation, but a strong F&M defense held the Mules off the board until the 2:10 mark of the opening quarter before the hosts scored twice in that remaining time. The Mules held just slight advantages in ground balls (37-34) and faceoff victories as both Garito and Adam Soper collected a team-leading four ground balls. Pierce Archer, Matt Melkonian, and Owen Hire added three ground balls to F&M's day. Archer additionally caused two turnovers as the Diplomats forced eight giveaways in total.
Last Time vs. McDaniel
In the regular season finale last season, the Diplomats locked up their spot in the Centennial Conference with a 20-5 win against the Green Terror. The Diplomats were presented with a win-and-in situation and they certainly capitalized from the onset. F&M won all four quarters during the Centennial Conference matchup against the Green Terror as they were up 13-2 at the break and matched their largest lead of the night with the final goal of the evening after scoring the first five during the wire-to-wire victory. Eleven different players scored a goal, while 15 registered a point, during the playoff-clinching victory. The Diplomats finished with 63 shots on the night and dominated the ground ball battle to a 42-22 edge. F&M also had the 17-12 edge at the face-off X with Matthew Freeman's 14-for-22 night leading those efforts. F&M's goalies combined for a nearly 69 percent save percentage in less than ideal conditions. Sage Garito earned the win by stopping four of the six shots he faced in the first half. Eric Mueller stopped five of the seven he was tasked with before John Donovan added two more stops. Lachlan Barber wrapped up the game in goal as the time ran out on the regular season.
McDaniel Preview
The Green Terror enter their regular season finale at 8-8 overall while also looking for their first Centennial Conference victory of the season. McDaniel started the season by winning seven of its first eight games. The closest the Green Terror have come to securing a Centennial Conference victory was a narrow 12-11 defeat at the hands of Haverford just two Saturdays ago. Jason Fritz leads the team in goals (37), assists (35), and points (72), while teammate Carter Youtz has additionally scored 33 goals to rank second on the team. TJ Bunce has found the most success at the face-off X, winning 70.3% of the restarts, with Tyler McDaniel taking the majority of the team's faceoffs where he has won just over 41 percent of those chances. Brighton Lorber has started every game in goal and is allowing just over 10 goals per game while stopping nearly 57 percent of the shots he has faced this season.
