College Library Image Databases

The sources below are paid for by the College Library.


Digital library of 1.8 million images of art, architecture, humanities, and social sciences with a set of tools to view, present, and manage them for study and teaching. Users can search without registering, but must register to take advantage of features such as saving and downloading images.

Image heavy reference source drawing from multiple disciplines, this is the database to use for fashion research.

Click the Image Search tab to search for fine art, design, antiques, maps, architecture, furniture, glass, ceramics, and anthropological artifacts from the collections of museums and galleries.

General Collections

Here, find various collections of images made freely available online from leading higher education institutions and museums. Please pay attention to rights statements on individual images.

Clark Art Institute

Browse continually updated images of art in the Clark's collection.

Images are open access and can be used without any prior permission.

Digital Public Library of America

A collection of primary source documents and images from public libraries and cultural institutions across the US.

Europeana

Collections from museums, libraries, archives, and galleries across Europe.

Harvard University HOLLIS Images

Union catalog of visual resources at Harvard focusing on artistic and cultural materials. Some records allow access to larger-scale images.

Library of Congress Prints & Photographs Online Collections

Over one million digitized images representing a rich cross-section of still pictures held by the Library of Congress.

New York Public Library Digital Collections

Nearly 850,000 items digitized from The New York Public Library collections. Incorporates the Library's renowned Mid-Manhattan Branch Picture Collection. Click here for information about using the images.

Yale Digital Content

Search over 1.5 million records with over 250K digital assets from across Yale University.

RIBApix

Images from the collections of the British Architectural Library at the Royal Institute of British Architects. Covers world architecture of all periods as well as interior design, landscape, topography, planning, construction, and decorative art.

Area Studies


Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection

Maps of historical and current interest. Collection categories include world geography, historical, thematic, and topographic.

Archnet

An open access resource with images and text focused on architecture, urbanism, environmental and landscape design, visual culture, and conservation issues related to the Muslim world.

Historical Photographs of China

From the University of Bristol, UK, more than 8,000 digitized photographs taken in China between 1850 and 1950. Interactive maps give the photos additional context.

WorldImages

Access to the California State University's IMAGE project of approximately 100,000 global images. For non-profit education use.

Artists' Books & Zines


Approximately 8,000 images of 2,000 books in the collection of the library of Otis College of Art & Design. Books can be viewed page-by-page, creating a valuable teaching and research resource for scholars, librarians, students, and artists.

A searchable repository of images and metadata for the College's collection of over 300 artists' books.

Visual index to the Artists' Book Collection, Kohler Art Library. Many of the titles have several images to visually represent structure and content.
