Physical education provides the best opportunity for physical activity to all children and teaches them the skills and knowledge needed to establish and sustain an active lifestyle. We, physical education teachers, assess student knowledge, motor and social skills, and provide instruction in a safe, supportive environment. (SHAPE America)

Meet Mr. Shepard
This is my 7th year teaching Physical Education at Silvia Elementary
I grew up in Tiverton, Rhode Island
I attended Rhode Island College, where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education
I love staying active by playing different sports and going on runs on my free time

📚 I attended URI for PHETE and RIC for my Masters in Educational Leadership
🌮 I love to eat tacos and dark chocolate 🍫
🏐 My favorite ways to stay active are by running races, playing volleyball, and going for bike rides 🚲
The Silvia Shining Star award is given from one of the co curricular subjects (specials) to a class. This award will be presented at the community meeting from the respective teacher to the awarded class. Each subject area will present an award: PE, Art, Music, Library.
It is our hope that this award program will shine a light on our unique subject areas. This award system gives the students something to strive to achieve in the arts and the school wide recognition will bring awareness to leaders in our school.
