School Counseling Internship
Fairview School District is excited to offer paid* internship positions for the 2024-25 school year. Internships run for one semester and can include a mix of experiences at the Elementary, Middle, and/or High School levels. See below for activities at each building.

Fairview Elementary School (K-4th grade)
Personal/Social Development:
Respond to students in immediate need
Meet with students individually in need of support
Coordinate with families to meet basic needs
Conduct student groups around mental health topics
Communicate with parents about school related counselor meetings
Teach Character Strong curriculum to students as a specials course
Serve as the coordinator of Student Support Team
Collaboration with Allegheny Health Network Chill Project
Universal mental health screening twice per year

Fairview Middle School (5th-8th grade)
Academic & Career Planning:
Create student schedules and manage schedule changes
Individual academic goal setting and planning
Study skills support
Engage students in career exploration and development activities.
Personal/Social Development:
Short term, solution-focused counseling with students.
Additional support is offered through the FMS Refocus Room.
Facilitate group counseling.
Coordinate with teachers and administrators to provide school-wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.

Universal mental health screening twice per year

Yearly individual student academic planning and goal setting
Individual conversations for pathway & postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force)
Create student schedules and manage schedule changes
Personal/Social Development:
Individualized mental health check-in
Connectedness survey
Short-term counseling. Manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills so that the student can return to classroom
Collaboration with Allegheny Health Network Chill Project
Universal mental health screening twice per year

Fairview School District is partnering with the PA Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) to provide funding for this internship.
An intern who's primary residency is in the state of Pennsylvania will be participating in the PA HELPS program and will receive $10,000 during the internship with the possibility of an additional $5,000 commitment award.
