One Book One School: Warrior Girl Unearthed

Perry Firekeeper-Birch had anticipated a carefree Summer of Slack, but fate had other plans. A car accident, not of her making, forces her into working to repay her Auntie Daunis for jeep repairs. Fortunately, Perry finds support in the unconventional summer program, Team Misfit Toys, and her twin sister Pauline. Together, they navigate obstacle courses, organize vigils for missing women in the community, and salvage the essence of summer.

Everything takes a turn when Perry attends a university meeting and discovers the existence of the "Warrior Girl" – an ancestor whose bones and knife are held in the museum archives. Determined to right the wrongs, Perry learns that the university exploits legal loopholes to retain Warrior Girl and twelve other Anishinaabe ancestors' remains. The Misfits, refusing to accept this injustice, embark on a daring heist to reclaim the stolen artifacts and remains.

Yet, as they delve into the mission, a more sinister truth emerges – more women are disappearing. Unraveling secrets and mysteries, Perry and the Misfits find themselves in a battle to rectify the wrongs committed against the ancestors and the community.

New Staff Member: Aaron Johnson

Greetings Warde Community. My Name is Aaron Johnson and I am the newest member of the Warde library team. This is my 16th year in the teaching profession and prior to Fairfield I worked for the Greenwich Public Schools system.

I am committed to providing staff and students with academic resources, interesting independent reading books, helping to develop research skills , and recently I have been focussed on the art of note-taking. Warde is an awesome school and I'm so proud to collaborate with such a talented staff. I also moved into town in 2022, and proud to serve in the town which I live.

Outside of school I am a loving cat dad, lover of history, and a licensed drone pilot - you can see my work on Warde's website.

Feel free to stop in the LLC anytime or say hi if you see me around town.

~Aaron

Wellness Week in the LLC

The Library Learning Commons (LLC) and the Unity Coalition are hosting our 2nd annual Wellness Week in and around the Library Learning Commons. During the week of March 25-28, we will be providing programming, resources, and activities for students and classes to participate in. Students can participate during free periods, study halls or with a class. Students will receive information on how to sign up for a variety of activities, including: journaling, Capoeira, inspirational rock decorating, Legos, Wellness Jeopardy, Navigating Stress Through Nutrition and Lifestyle and more. Movies, music, puzzles, crafts and games will be available in the library throughout the week.

We were lucky enough to receive a substantial grant from the Fairfield Foundation for Education to provide wellness resources for Wellness Week and items that can be used by students year round in the LLC.

A special thank you to the Fairfield Foundation for Education for awarding us the grant this year so we can provide wellness resources throughout the year to the students of FWHS.
