FPS Grade 7 Math
Dream Bedroom Project
Background (not really real) Info
Your teacher entered all of the students in your class into the Grade 7 Math Dream Bedroom Contest. Your challenge is to design a unique dream room that would use the $6,000 prize money most creatively and efficiently. You must use as much of the money as possible without going over the $6,000. The best design wins, so good luck! Be creative, and have fun!
Tasks
- Use graph paper to make a scale drawing of a standard 15' x 16' room floor plan, with 1 door (32" wide x 6' tall), 2 windows (each 24" x 36") and a closet door (your choice of dimensions). Your room will be 8' tall.
- Include the scale used in your drawing
- You will need to add the following furnishings (with correctly scaled dimensions) to your drawing, after you find them from your research (step 4):
- a bed
- a dresser
- a bookcase
- a desk and chair
- Use the Research Resources to find items for your room (furniture, floor covering, paint, lighting, mattress, bedding, etc.). Do the following for each item once you've found it:
- Record its cost and shipping costs (if applicable) in the Room Costs spreadsheet
- Copy and paste an image of the item in the Shopping Cart file
- For furniture- record its dimensions (width x depth) in the Furniture Dimensions spreadsheet.
- Complete the Room Costs spreadsheet to calculate the costs of floor covering, paint, furniture, mattress, bedding and any other items you'd like in your dream bedroom. Don't go over $6,000!
- Submit your room drawing plan to your teacher, and save all the required documents in your GR7 DREAM BEDROOM Google Drive folder as directed by your teacher
