Why study Practical Craft Skills?
Pupils are able to work at National 1-3 level which gives a broad introduction to Practical Craft Skills. It is largely workshop based and focuses on practical woodworking and or/metalworking skills. Pupils will get to use a wide range of tools, equipment and materials, working with wood, plastics and/or metals. Pupils follow a series of activities through to the completion of a finished item which pupils will be able to take home.
This course aims to develop skills in:
· Life skills such as: measuring, working together, problem solving, D.I.Y. and working safely.
· Selecting and using a range of tools, equipment and common materials appropriately in a working environment.
· Applying skills and knowledge to produce craftwork items.
The main areas of study in Practical Craft Skills include:
Working with tools: The focus of this unit is the use and application of tools in the workshop, pupils will develop their knowledge of how tools are used and the differences between metal and woodwork tools.
Working with Materials: The focus will be learning about different woods metals and plastics as well as a range of craft materials. These will be used to complete a product.
Making a craft Item: This will combine previous learning and safety skills to create a project that pupils will be able to use and take home.
