Building Digital Solutions
You will design and build a simple animation or game using computer programming (coding) to build your “Digital Solution.” Pupils can use a block based editor program like Scratch or for those ready for a challenge there is a possibility to use a more “mainstream" coding language like Python.
Information Solutions
We turn our attention to the design and building of websites. Although we will have a look at some of the coding languages specific to websites (HTML, CSS and JavaScript), most of the course will be using a WYSIWIG (What you see is what you get) web building programme, Serif WebPlus X6. Using this software it will allow pupils to build a functional multi-page website using links, anchors, hyperlinks and a bit of graphic and colour design theory to build an attractive website.
Examples of previous pupils work of a multipage website
The aim of studying Computer Science is to develop your computational thinking and problem solving skills that can be applied not to just the world of computers, but across all areas of your learning. The aim is to develop your ability of being able to break down a complex problem into smaller more manageable chunks and then deliver a solution that can be effectively carried out by either a computer or a human.
