"As Executive Director of ExpandLA, I cannot remain silent while immigrant families in our communities are targeted and terrorized. The recent ICE raids across Los Angeles threaten the safety, dignity, and well-being of our children and families, forcing them into the shadows when they should be free to thrive.

Expanded learning programs are more than enrichment - they are safe, affirming spaces where young people are nurtured, supported and empowered, regardless of their immigration status. These programs serve as a vital bridge between school and home, offering consistency and care in a world that too often feels uncertain.

When children are too afraid to go to school or attend after-school programs because they worry their families may be separated before they return home, it breaks the trust that holds our education and community systems together. How can we expect young people to dream about their future when their present is filled with fear?

Our network of youth-serving organizations stand firmly with immigrant families and with the educators, community partners, and youth workers who support them every day. We join the call for an immediate end to these inhumane and destabilizing raids.

ExpandLA is unwavering in our commitment to ensuring that every young person has access to safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments. We urge our federal, state and local leaders: protect our families - do not persecute them. Our communities deserve better. Our youth deserve better.”
