Q: How do I access the Student's Theater website?
A: You have to have an EWSD email. Parents, to access THIS site, you need to login using your student's email.
(example: studentname@vt.ewsd.org OR staffname@ewsd.org)
***Helpful hint: For personal computers at home, create a seperate user profile using your students EWSD login credentials***
Q: Why is the students Theater site restricted?
A: Due to copyrighted scripts and student names/information this is protected and limited to EWSD account holders only.
Q - What are show dates?
A:
Due to scheduling availability, our show is now later than usual.
Thursday, May 7th at 7pm
Friday, May 8th at 7pm
Saturday, May 9th at 2pm
*Sunday, May 10th at 2pm
*Yes, we are aware that Sunday, May 10th is Mother's Day
Q: How and when can we get tickets?
A: Tickets usually go on sale approx. 2 weeks before opening night. Dates will be announced when they are determined.
We try to have a 'Pre-Sale", that is specifically for immediate family members of the cast to get advanced tickets to 1 show. This allows the chance for ALL cast members families to have an opportunity to get tickets before sales open to the public, as we have a much larger cast than usual. Once Public sales are opened, you are welcome to purchase as many tickets to as many showings you want.
Tickets are sold thought Kristin Roy, in the Main Office at ADL. 802-878-1388. Cash or Check. We are also looking to move to an online ticketing service. More information to come.
Tickets MIGHT be available at the door, but are not guaranteed.
Audition form and conflict calendar are located in the ADL Theatre's Audition Central Google Site as well as 'Parent Central'
Audition Materials: must use the Student Audition Central Site (requiring an EWSD login)
DATES:
Mon, Dec 8th and Tue, Dec 9th 3:45-5:30 are first-round auditions.
Wed, Dec 10th 2:45-5:30 will be used for callbacks, as well as Fri, Dec 12th (if needed)
Your student will stay for the entire time on their assigned day.
Once we have your students completed Audition Form and Conflict Calendar, we will assign them to an audition day based on the information provided on their form.
Q: Why do I need to fill out the conflict calendar?
A: Casting and scheduling are based off this information. When building rehearsal schedules, especially for large group numbers, we need to know when your student is available. We do our very best to make accommodations, but when working with 30+ students sometimes it's impossible to make it work, all the time. If you student is scheduled on a day of a listed conflict, they are 'excused', BUT your student needs to follow up at their next rehearsal to get any information that they missed.
Also, since our show is a month later than normal, we have been working with Mrs. Hutton regarding Spring Athletics. We will make every effort to coordinate scheduling, but also knowing that Tech and Performance weeks are EXTREMELY important for attendance.
Q - What if my student doesn't get the role they want?
A: Please try to keep an open mind about the show rather than focusing on one specific role. Remember that a show isn't like a math test, where there are right and wrong answers. There may be several actors who are "right" for the lead role - but we then look at factors that go beyond your acting.
Factors such as:
1) schedule availability (our #1 concern)
2) which actors "fit" together as scene partners (example: a very talented girl may not be cast as Annie if she is taller than the boy selected to play Daddy Warbucks)
3) your students attitude and behavior at auditions (we want to cast students who take the show seriously and can be peer leaders to other students).
Actors have many stories about roles they were cast in that they didn't necessarily want, only to have that role be a life-changing experience. There are a range of great characters in the show and we will cast in such a way that everyone will have a chance to shine.
Q: What will my student need for rehearsals?
A:
Your script
Pencil
Highlighter
Comfortable clothes and shoes to move and dance in.
Water
Snacks, if wanted
Recommended Items
Sticky Tabs
In theatre, it is hard to make up missed rehearsals, and missing rehearsals effects not only your student but the entire rest of the cast as well. You must remember that being in a play is a huge time commitment, and your student should not miss rehearsals last minute for reasons other than illness, family emergency, or special circumstance.
This does not apply to conflicts that were pre-listed on your students conflict calendar.
After missing a rehearsal, your student must see the Director and/or Stage Manager in order to get all the notes/blocking they missed and to see if they need to speak with the Music and Vocal Directors regarding any music rehearsals.
Getting your student to Saturday rehearsals on time. Being on time means being a little early! Please have your child at rehearsal 5-10 minutes before the beginning of their rehearsal. This allows your student to enter the building, put their belongings in a safe location out of the way and be ready to promptly start warm-ups at our scheduled start time.
Q - When are rehearsals? How many rehearsals will my student have?
Rehearsals start on Jan 5 (the first day back to school following winter break). Start times are 3:45 (2:45 on Wednesdays), and we end at 5:30. Selected Saturdays between 11:00-3:00.
By and large we go every week, M-Th, plus Saturdays. Note, your student may not be called to every rehearsal.
We make every effort to have your student excused by the release time, but sometimes we do run a little over because we need to finish what we were in the middle of running and clean up of our space.
Lead roles - 4 days (M, T, W, Th plus select Saturdays).
Supporting roles - 2 to 3 days (M, T, W, Th plus select Saturdays).
Featured roles - 1-2 days (M, T, W, Th plus select Saturdays).
Ensemble - 1-2 days (M, T, W, Th plus select Saturdays).
Q: How can I get involved and help with the theater and Production?
A. Parent involvement is a unique part of our theater program. Without the support of parents, ADL Theater could not produce high-quality, community-pleasing shows.
The Producer(Carmon Verasamy) will be looking for help with a variety of areas that are essential to making our productions come to life and
Please refer to the Parent Volunteer page and check all the areas that we need assistance.
a. There are so many ways to help, big and small. In person and from home. If you have an idea that isn't listed, we love new opportunities and feedback.
All adult volunteers MUST fill out the District Volunteer form.
A: We are a self funded program and therefore limited in our budget. Meaning, our program is NOT funded by using school/district funds with the exception of the stipends for the Adult staff.
All money in our budget comes from ticket sales, ad sales and concession donations from the previous years performances and this then sets our budget total for the upcoming year.
So having as many volunteers as possible, help us to put on high quality productions with a low cost.
Q: Do you have to have a child in the play to help out?
A: Absolutely not! We welcome (and very much appreciate) all who are willing to pitch in. Volunteering with the school play is one of the most memorable moments at ADL, one that keeps on bringing volunteers back each year. All adult volunteers MUST fill out the District Volunteer form.
A: NO, not unless you want to.
We strive to provide ALL materials that your student will need to have a successful production.
Costume pieces are usually sourced from a variety of places, either from items we already have in our possession, to purchasing specific items.
We may ask if you happen to have an item already at home or access to from a family member or friend (example: a specific type of shoe), that we may "borrow" for the performances. If you do not, then we make sure that item is sourced for your student.
The same applies to Props.
Food
On Saturdays, we typically ask that you send lunch for your student. Once or twice, we try to provide lunch for everyone. We normally will order pizza's and if we do a 2nd provided lunch, we reach out and ask for participation in a potluck style.
A: NO. We buy and provide all the necessary makeup needs for each production.
Some students prefer to bring their own if they already have it, and that's fine, for some items.
If your student would prefer their own makeup kit, we have some recommendations provided.
WE DO NOT ALLOW MAKEUP SHARING. All makeup that is provided is either given directly to the student OR we portion out what the student will need. We also provide disposable applicators.
A: I am working on building a list of needed items for people who would like to loan or donate, as many things are show specific.
In general, we are always looking for the following items:
Shoes-generally NOT sneakers.
Paint. All colors, interior and exterior.
STORAGE. Cabinets, cubbies, heavy duty clothing racks--or a builder that could construct these for us.
A: There are many things you can do to help your student get prepared for performances.
Run (practice) lines with your student. This helps get your student "off book". There will be a deadline for this.
Access to a big mirror for dance practices or videoing for them to watch themselves.
Doing show background research. Allowing them the ability to view previous producitons of this show to get a feel of the flow.
Doing character research/development (write stuff out, historical deep dives, writing out how they see their character)
Getting your student to rehearsals on time = 5-10 minutes early
Being gentle on their voice leading up to show. Encouraging them to drink LOTS and LOTS of water, resting their voice.
Helping them gather items to build out a “show bag” (water, snacks, comfy clothes, makeup, bobby pins, bags, script, pencils, highlighters, etc) if they want one. If they want one and you need assistance obtaining items, please reach out and we can help get them for you.
Encourage them to highlight their parts/lines in their script and sticky tabbing all scenes that they are in. This makes it significantly easier and faster for them to find different places within their scrip. (highlighters and sticky tabs can be obtained from Jordan, the Director, if you don't have any at home)
Listen to the soundtrack often. Play it in the car, when you are at home. Repetition helps with the memorization. This production is VERY song heavy.
Q - What if I have additional questions??
A: Email, stop in to one of our Audition workshops December 1-5 after school or any rehearsal.
