Drama rehearsals can be a challenging environment. By following simple school rules and common sense, we can all have a rewarding experience and produce an amazing show. ALL SCHOOL RULES FOR BEHAVIOR AND SAFETY APPLY TO MUSICAL REHEARSALS,
C15: Student Conduct and Discipline
plus a few that are specific to our craft….
ENTER THE ROOM by the doors furthest from the stage.
PUT ALL BELONGINGS in the “back of the house”
HELP SET UP THE SPACE! Lights out (if needed), tables broken down placed along the window wall, piano and bench fetched, space cleared. Ask how you can help.
ATTENDANCE is required at every rehearsal you are called to, unless it was listed on your conflict form (other than sickness, weather, other special circumstances).
PLEASE COME PREPARED -
“DOWN TIME” - a book, homework, other quiet activity. We are a phone-free zone.
Food must be put away before rehearsals and is not allowed onstage, backstage or in the hallways during rehearsals, tech, dress rehearsals, and performances. Water bottles are always allowed.
Bring: YOUR SCRIPT, a pencil and a highlighter.
RESPECT - we will be respectful of you, and we expect that respect in return. Respect starts with listening and paying attention to the leader of whatever rehearsal you are in. Respect also applies to our space, set and props.
FOOD
must be put away before rehearsals. Exceptions can be made upon request
is NEVER allowed onstage, backstage or in the hallways during rehearsals, tech, dress rehearsals, and performances. Water bottles are always allowed.
TEAMWORK - just like basketball, drama is a team activity. Please take care of each other. Encourage each other to make this show even better than last year’s!
THE CAFETERIA - is our home and our theater. Everyone is expected to take care of the space by keeping it clean and orderly.
LISTENING/ATTENTIVENESS - it is never OK to chat with another student during a drama rehearsal.
FOLLOW ALL STAGE RULES - These rules are vital for personal safety and the safety of others. No "playing" onstage, no "horseplay" onstage, No running/jumping/climbing (unless directed to do so). Do not touch props, costumes, set pieces that you are not assigned to. No playing, pulling or wrapping your body with the curtains.
TAKING TURNS - In large groups, please raise your hand if you would like to speak or ask a question. It can get VERY overwhelming when 20 students try to talk all at the same time.
COMMUNICATION - The more communication with the Directorial team the better. It is helpful for us to know things that are going on that may affect you on stage or during rehearsals. If you are having an ‘off’ day, let us know. If you are overwhelmed, let us know. We are more than happy to accommodate and work with you, but we just need to know what's going on. We want to support you in any way we can, we are a judgment free community, so please keep us informed and updated on things going as seen fit.

PHONES- need to be POWERED OFF and placed in your backpack. If you are waiting for communication from home, please leave the phone with a stage manager.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IF BEHAVIOR NEEDS ADDRESSING
Friendly reminder
Firm reminder
Possible removal from the rehearsal for a short time
Possible removal from the rehearsal for the day AND a call home(student will sit quietly until rehearsal is over, or leave early with a parent).
A meeting with a Parent/Guardian to develop a plan for the student to be successful during rehearsals/performances
Removal from a scene or song
A meeting with ADL administration
Although we make every effort to accommodate every cast member, the school and the director may remove a student from the cast if that student is not able to successfully participate in the rehearsal process despite all efforts.
ANY QUESTIONS about the above material are welcomed. Please keep in dialogue with the director, Jordan Verasamy, to have any conversations about student behavior, student participation, etc. Please email Jordan at jverasamy@ewsd.org.
